In a nutshell:

Hormones are responsible for a lot of different processes in our body INCLUDING fat storage. Truth: as women age, our hormones play a more pivotal role in fat loss and weight loss.

They’re also the annoying reason a middle-aged guy can bang out a routine at the gym, eat cleanish for a few weeks and look ripped, but you can’t shift the bulge.  Who else has felt frustrated by a well-meaning partner when they suggest you eat less? They just DON’T GET IT!

But are hormones solely responsible for weight loss woes?  It’s likely that something is wrong with your nutrition and your exercise. Maybe you’re not quite eating right for fat loss. Maybe your activity levels are just not quite at the right pitch.

The interesting thing is that food and exercise is linked to your hormonal health and vice versa.

So if you eat right and make positive lifestyle changes  you can rebalance your hormones which leads to better results, whatever your goals are.

Essentially, weight loss does still come down to ‘calories in, calories out’, but we need to be more clever about it in our 30’s and 40’s and start to look at the bigger picture.

  • If your oestrogen levels are raised, you’re going to find it harder to lose fat around the tummy, the hips, the back of your arms—the classic female trouble spots.
  • If your insulin and cortisol levels are raised, you’re going to find it harder to lose fat around the belly as well.

Bottom line: our hormones can and DO  play a role in body composition and total well-being.


So what can you do about it?

The good news is that you can tackle hormonal imbalances through lifestyle change, diet, and supplementation.
